Shells
North Myrtle Beach has some of the prettiest and most intact shells on the Grand Strand. The secret to finding great shells is to look for a bunch of them all gathered in one spot. Sure. a lot of them will be cracked or broken, but there will be a lot of whole ones there too. You can also find them at low tide and if you are in the water, don’t be afraid to kick around the sand. You can’t be lazy when searching for the perfect shell. Anything that looks like it might be a good one is worth picking up and checking.
Fossils
Who knew North Myrtle Beach was a great place to find fossils? It’s true. You can find everything from fossilized sharks teeth to “turtle heads,” as the locals call them. They are actually fossilized muscle shells and they wash up on the shored of North Myrtle Beach every day. They look like a turtle’s head and are fun to collect and show off. They are truly a unique souvenir to take home. You can also find fossilized fish palates, sting ray barbs and even dinosaur bones.
Corals
You can buy coral from many souvenir and shell stores in Myrtle Beach, but it can be pricey. You also don’t know where those corals came from. If you look carefully, you can find pieces of coral that wash up on the beach. They are often mixed with shells and can sometimes be hard to find, but if you are lucky enough to see one you had better snatch it up before a wave or another treasure hunter gets it.
